Assistant Chief Marty Slack
Marty Slack is the Area Commander over the Operations East Division for Unified Fire Authority. Chief Slack’s division includes East Station Operations, the UFA Staffing Office, the UFA Medical Bureau, and SWAT Medics.
Chief Slack began his fire service career in 1987 working as a Firefighter/EMT and Engineer for the South Davis Fire District. In 1989 he was hired by Salt Lake County Fire which later became Unified Fire Authority. During his tenure at Salt Lake County and Unified Fire Authority Chief Slack has worked as a Firefighter/EMT, Haz-Mat Specialist, Paramedic, Medical Training Captain, Station Captain, Truck Captain, and Operations Battalion Chief. He was appointed to his current position as Assistant Chief in November of 2009.
Chief Slack studied Business Management and Accounting at Brigham Young University. He has also completed course work at other institutions in Organic Chemistry, Allied Health Science, Building Construction, and Management and Leadership. Chief Slack has been an adjunct instructor for Utah Valley University and Dixie State College where he taught courses in Building Construction, Emergency Medicine, and Truck Company Operations.
Chief Slack and his wife Micalle are the parents of five children and have three grandchildren. When he’s not at work Chief Slack enjoys riding his Harley, fly fishing, creating synchronized Christmas light shows, and spending time with his family.
