PART-TIME RECEPTIONIST VACANCIES:

We are currently recruiting for two individuals to work part-time as the UFA Receptionist. This individual is the first point of contact for visitors to the Salt Lake County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which houses the Unified Fire Authority and Salt Lake County Emergency Management administrative offices, in addition to the 24-Hour Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center

These positions are anticipated to work approximately twenty-five hours/week. The pay rate will range between $8.25 to $10.50/hour, depending on experience.

The primary duties are:

Answers, directs and transfers incoming main-line telephone calls for Salt Lake County Emergency Management and the Unified Fire Authority. Greets visitors to the building, exchanges information, checks & verifies identification, signs them in (and out), announces them to whoever they are here to see, and directs them to the correct area. Assists with general mailing by creating & printing address labels, stuffing envelopes. Receives deliveries from various venders Arranges for pick-up of packages with USPS, UPS,FedEx, etc.. Prepares letters, reports, plans, and other documents as needed. May participate as a member of the Emergency Operations staff during activation of the Emergency Operations Center or during training for such activation. Receives payment for service and fees. Perform other duties as assigned.

THE REGISTRATION PERIOD FOR THE 2013 FIREFIGHTER AND PARAMEDIC TESTING PROCESS HAS CLOSED

Those individuals who registered by the December 9th deadline may download the applicant information handbooks for information regarding the testing process. The handbooks include the testing locations, the testing times and dates and general information about the position, including job duties, minimum requirements, salary and benefit information and the likelihood of being selected. The testing process will be similar to ones we have conducted previously, but changes have been made. Please read the information packet carefully for a description of the current process.

The hiring lists we establish from the 2013 testing process will last for one year for paramedics and two years for firefighters. As a result we expect to hold our next paramedic recruitment in the Spring of 2015 and our next firefighter recruitment in the Spring of 2016. We will be starting a new interest list for individuals who are interested in receiving information about future testing processes beginning in March 2014. PART-TIME PAID CALL FIREFIGHTER POSITIONS

These are part-time firefighter positions which are paid on an hourly basis. Paid call firefighters are stationed at select stations within our service area and usually respond as part of an ambulance crew. Individuals hired for these positions are required to have current Firefighter II and Utah State EMT-B or Paramedic Certifications.

Applications for these positions are accepted at all times but individuals are only contacted for interviews at two or three different times during the year as we establish hiring lists to fill existing and upcoming vacancies. In order to be considered for the next round of interviews, applications must be received by January 31, 2014. The next anticipated round of interviews after that will be in August, 2014. There is not a set schedule for hiring; we fill positions when we have enough vacancies to create a new training class.

WILDLAND FIRE SEASONAL JOBS

Unified Fire Authority is currently accepting applications for the 2014 fire season. If you are interested, please complete a UFA employment application (see the link at the top of this page) and attach copies of any related certifications that you hold. All applicants must be 18 years old at time of hire, and have a valid driver’s license. Applicants must pass the mile and a half run (11 minutes 40 seconds or faster) prior to an interview. Once an application has been received we will contact the applicant with further details about the next steps in our hiring process.

The Wildland Bureau is hiring seasonal employees and is staffing one hand crew, a type III engine and another crew that will be stationed at Camp Williams. The hiring will be very competitive as positions are limited.

PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT IN SUPPORT POSITIONS

Unified Fire Authority occasionally hires part-time support employees. These individuals are generally hired for office support positions that involve entering, retrieving and manipulating data using Excel spreadsheets or other software programs, filling a variety of documents, and completing order forms or other types of paperwork. Other part-time positions involve making deliveries, unpacking shipments and performing general warehouse duties.

We accept applications for these positions continuously although we typically have less than five vacancies each year. To be considered for a part-time position, please submit an employment application and write PART-TIME SUPPORT POSITIONS on the title of the position applied for line. Part-time employees are paid on an hourly basis and the typical pay rate is between $8.00 and $12.00 dollars per hour based on duties performed, experience and qualifications. Part-time employees are considered at will employees who may be terminated at any time, for any reason, and without notice.

Part time employees are not considered merit employees and are not entitled to general UFA employment benefits such as health insurance or retirement benefits. Part-time employees without benefits are eligible for a few specific benefits however, including workers compensation, training, and incentive awards.
