PART-TIME ( PAID CALL) FIREFIGHTER AND PARAMEDIC POSITIONS
These are part-time firefighter or paramedic positions which are paid on an hourly basis. Paid call firefighters and paramedics are stationed at select stations within our service area and are considered first responders. Individuals hired for these positions are required to have current Firefighter II and at least Utah State EMT-B Certifications.
We will be hiring several individuals to begin employment in April or May of 2015. To be considered for these openings, applications must be received prior to March 13, 2015. Selected individuals will be contacted following the closing date and scheduled for interviews.

Following the hiring that takes place in March, 2015, we will post information on this website when another hiring process begins. There is not a set schedule for hiring; we fill positions when we have enough vacancies to create a new training class. We anticipate the next recruitment period will be in November or December, 2015.
Part-time firefighters and paramedics are paid on an hourly basis and the pay rate ranges between $10.25 and $12.20 per hour (for firefighters) and between $13.00 and $14.20 per hour (for paramedics) depending upon the certifications held.
Part-time firefighters and paramedics are considered at-will employees who may be terminated at any time, for any reason, and without notice.
Part time firefighters and paramedics are not considered merit employees and are not entitled to general UFA employment benefits such as health insurance or retirement benefits. Part-time employees without benefits are eligible for a few specific benefits however, including workers compensation, training, and incentive awards.
FULL TIME FIREFIGHTER AND PARAMEDIC RECRUITMENT
Thank you for your interest in employment as a firefighter or firefighter/paramedic with Unified Fire Authority. Since we have an existing hiring list, we do not anticipate another recruitment until the end of 2015 or early Spring of 2016.

As soon as we have a specific testing date and specific recruitment dates, we will notify everyone on the interest list and update this website as well. When you return this form to us, your name will be placed on an Interest List. Completing this form does not register you to take the examination, nor is it considered an application. It just provides us with a way to mail or email you information about the application and testing process once the recruitment and examination dates have been established. We will not be accepting official applications or test registrations until the recruitment period begins. If your contact information changes, please submit a new interest form.
Firefighters will be required to be certified as at least an EMT-B in the state of Utah in order to perform their regular job duties. Applicants who do not possess this certification at the time of hire must obtain it within the first months of hire, possibly at their own expense. Applicants are encouraged to obtain this certification before being hired or participating in the testing process. Paramedics are required to be certified as a Paramedic in the State of Utah in order to begin working, and in order to participate in the testing process, they must be either certified in the state of Utah, or another state, or be nationally registered. For those individuals who are hired as Paramedics, the UFA recognizes time employed (as a full-time Firefighter or Paramedic) for a fire-based, paramedic-providing agency. Credit for time is awarded on a year-for-year basis and the maximum amount that is recognized is five years. Credit for time is for pay purposes only and is not recognized for any purpose associated with the employee’s seniority date. Specific information on how this credited time affects pay will be provided in the recruitment materials available when the recruitment begins. Paramedics may also apply for employment through our firefighter testing process, but if selected will be hired (and paid) as firefighters. In addition, for individuals hired as firefighters, UFA does not recognize time employed as a firefighter or paramedic for other fire-based, paramedic-providing agencies. After completing a nine-month probation period, firefighters are eligible to compete for promotion to existing Firefighter Specialist (including Paramedic) vacancies.
WILDLAND FIRE SEASONAL JOBS
Applications for Wildland Firefighter positions are only accepted in December and January of each year. Employees for the May-September season are selected from the individuals who apply in December and January

All applicants must be 18 years old at time of hire, and have a valid driver’s license. Applicants must pass the mile and a half run (11 minutes 40 seconds or faster) prior to an interview. During the recruitment period, after an application has been received, we will contact the applicant with details about our hiring process. The Wildland Bureau hires seasonal employees and is currently staffing one hand crew, a type III engine and another crew that is stationed at Camp Williams. The hiring will be very competitive as positions are limited.

PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT IN SUPPORT POSITIONS
Unified Fire Authority occasionally hires part-time support employees. These individuals are generally hired for office support positions that involve entering, retrieving and manipulating data using Excel spreadsheets or other software programs, filling a variety of documents, and completing order forms or other types of paperwork. Other part-time positions involve making deliveries, unpacking shipments and performing general warehouse duties.
We accept applications for these positions continuously although we typically have less than five vacancies each year.
